The church has always made the care of the grieving a priority in her ministry, beginning with the example of Jesus himself. The reference in the Beatitudes, the miraculous raising of Lazarus – all are clear expressions of the Lord’s concern for those experiencing the pain of the loss of a loved one.
What the ministry does:
We will meet with the family of the deceased to assist in planning the funeral liturgy. In addition, if space permits, our social hall may be available for the funeral luncheon. Volunteers will setup the hall, serve the food and cleanup. The family is responsible for providing the food.
Grief support sessions are offered in parishes throughout the year in different area parishes. Stephen Ministers are available to walk the journey of bereavement with those who are grieving. Contact Mary Jordan at the parish office or email mjordan@stsmarthaandmaryparish.org for further information.
